Fioricet (Butalbital Acetaminophen Caffeine Capsules)
Fioricet is the brand name of the combination drugs- butalbital, APAP, caffeine, and codeine. It is effective in providing relief from headaches and migraine. Fioricet should be used according to the guidelines laid by the medical practitioners and the manufacturers of the drug. The medicine can have drug interactions with many other drugs. It is not beneficial for every individual in the world. For example, Fioricet cannot be taken by a person suffering from respiratory problems, or enzyme disorders. People with kidney disorders, certain heredity problems, history of alcohol or drug abuse, emotional or mental breakdowns, or those who suffer from stomach ulcers or cardiac diseases cannot take Fioricet. Not only this but every drug used by a person should be recorded and known by the doctor before any new drug or treatment is taken.
Fioricet cannot be taken if a person suffers from-
- Allergy from butalbital, APAP, caffeine or codeine.
If a person is allergic to the following drugs, he should avoid Fioricet as well-
- Derivatives of Xanthine, like theophylline.
- Barbiturates, like phenobarbital
Children below the age of 12 years should not take Fioricet.
